Where to start..?

The planned attention areas will be:

  • Get the engine running properly - at the moment the pick up is not great and I gather the camshaft is a high wear almost service item...standard new camshaft\lifters will be fine.
  • Change the mechanical distributor for Megajolt- in the SS1 the distributor is tucked away under the windscreen and a bit of a pain to get to..
  • Change brake pads and maybe discs
  • Inspect the suspension components

Once those have been attended to it will form a good base to start from and i suspect will make a marked improvement...  i will record  30-50 mph figures in third to gauge acceleration improvements.. and 50-0 mph for braking.
Top speed and 0-60 mph are not a priority and having had a Kawasaki ZX636r  ...irrelevant!

Small intro...

The trials of tribulations of my little red SS1, at the moment it's road worthy..just..but needs a some TLC to make it shine.

Being very simple ( both car and owner) they are easy to maintain and modify - most parts are relatively easy to obtain and the forum  RSSOC   (Reliant Sabre & Scimitar Owners Club) is full of invaluable information and tinker friendly members...

It has a 1.6 CVH engine but in RWD format with a Type 9 gearbox - enough for the road...

It handles nicely and neatly,  but the real appreciation will be on the track- and this is where i would like to take it.

Power is not the goal here.. but that's where everyone starts...
